Wurtsmith Confers With Kenny Far East
Brig Gen Paul B. Wurtsmith, right, newly appointed commander of the 13th AF, conferring with Lt. Gen. George C. Kenny, commander of the Far East Air Force, including the 13th and 5th. Three years ago Gen. Wurtsmith reported to the Southwest Pacific Theater with the first American fighter group to go into action under Gen. MacArthur, the famous 49th. When Gen. Kenny was assigned commander of the 5th A.F in Sept., 1942, Gen. Wurtsmith was appointed chief of the 5th Fighter Command which, early in March, shot down its 2500th Jap plane. As 13th AAF commander he replaces Maj. Gen. St. Clair Street, returned to Washington for an undisclosed assignment.
