Working quickly and efficiently with up-to-date equipment, fire-fighters of the U.S. 8th Air Force checked an inferno of hazardous flames which enveloped a crashed Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress and threatened other aircraft nearby. Fire fighters are often able to salvage parts of aircraft equipment which would have to be written off as a total loss if the blaze went uncontrolled. Officers and men look over the wreckage, wary of any left-over spark or flame.
