Women of Pieh tribe in China Theatre

These are women of the Pieh tribe who live in the area between Lungling and Mangshih, China theater of operations where Maj. Gen. C.L. Chennault's 14th AF fighters and bombers coordinated with Chinese ground forces in clearing Mangshih to open Burma Road as overland supply line to China. Here married women wear black, turban-type hats, as shown in picture, to indicate married status. They favor bright red, orange colors for dresses.
