Whenever a heavy bomber returns to this Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress base in a crippled condition from a bombing attack over Germany, members of the ground crew are always on the spot to make the necessary repairs. As soon as this plane landed with a damaged tail wheel as the result of enemy gun fire, the mechanics, who were standing by, made quick work of putting the Fortress back in shape. These ground men work long and arduous hours in the near freezing temperatures here in England to keep the bomber in A-1 condition for the continual assaults made over enemy territory.
