When the Boeing B-29 (A/C No. 263395) of the 463th Bomb Group, XX Bomber Command, returning to its home base in China after bombing enemy installations at Mukden, Manchuria, was about thirty feet from the runway, the plane dropped almost straight down to the runway, breaking the fuselage in half just between the bomb bays. The airplane was nearly out of gasoline, it was covered with ice, and the pilot's visibility was impaired.
