Warplanes salvaged in northern Europe
600 warplanes, valued in excess of $120,000,000 have been saved by the U.S. 8th Air Force Service Command system of airfields and landing strips throughout northern Europe. Pvt. Alfred P. Weiss, Berwyn, Ill., is salvaging.50 calibre ammunition taken from planes too damaged to return to their bases in England after bombing missions to Germany. Without this system of emergency bases and mobile repair units, many of these planes would have been lost to the 8th AF bombing of Germany.
