Vasay highway near Balikpapan

Balikpapan Operation July 1-31, 1945 - A half mile section of Vasay highway adjacent to the Sepinggang Airstrip about twelve miles northeast of Balikpapan Refinery. In this section the road was almost completely destroyed by 500 and 1000 lb. bombs. The oil pipe lines from Samboja and Samarinda oil fields, laid under the shoulder of the road, were uprooted in almost every bomb crater. 10 July 1945.
