US 9th AF Personnel Evacuation
Air Corps and ground forces prisoners relaxing in the May sunshine await their turn for evacuation by U. S. 9th AF Douglas C-47 troop carriers. The men, many imprisoned since November 1942, said their rations consisted of three potatoes per man per day and a loaf of black bread divided between nine. Red Cross packages were all that kept them from dying of malnutrition, they said. Housed in this tent pitched in a hollow, which flooded during rainstorms, were 450 Allied prisoners. Moosburg, Germany.
