US 8th Air Force Fighters in England
All three fighter types used by the U.S. Army 8th Air Force are seen in this line-up of Fighter Command airplanes at a base in England. The planes belong to the fighter group commanders who have flown to an agreed meeting place where they and their chief, Brig Gen Francis H. Griswold, can confer on ways of troubling the tottering German armies and air force. Leading from foreground to rear, the first, second and fourth planes are North American P-51 Mustangs; the third, fifth, sixth and seventh are Republic P-47 Thunderbolts; another Thunderbolt is on the upper far right; beside it is a Lockheed P-38 Lightning. Taken at Bottisham, Cambridge, England.
