U-Boat in Southwestern Atlantic

ATTACK ON A U-BOAT. These six photographs were taken from a Coastal Command Whitney which made a depth-charge attack on a U-boat in the Southwestern approaches of the Atlantic. No. 40, Depth charges released as submarine began to crash dive. No. 40a, Splash of the depth charges as they fell forward of the comming tower. No. 40b, Submarine completely enveloped by spray during explosion of depth charges. No. 40c, After the explosion, the stern of the submarine is seen as she emerges. No. 40d, Submarine forced up to the surface by the explosion. No. 40e, The submarine has sunk leaving a large patch of oil and air bubbles. THEATRE #8 - Southwestern Atlantic
