Trucks, bulldozers and scrapers at work on the construction of three strips which were completed by the 928th Provisional Battalion, the 802nd, 807th, 1878th and 1901st Engineer Aviation Battalions. The strips were 300 by 7500 feet with three taxiways. Since no coral was available near this area the supply had to be hauled from a pit about four miles away. With the inconvenience of obtaining coral; the necessity of maintaining roads; and continuous fighting - construction was slow and arduous. 30 June 1945, Okinawa, Ryukyu Retto.
