1945-08-18

Douglas C-54 "Skymasters" on service apron, Kadena Airstrip #B, Okinawa, Ryukyu Retto. These planes were flown in from all bases in the SWPA and United States, and alerted to carry prisoners from Japan and Manchuria. There were approximately 200 "Skymasters" parked on this airstrip. All combat airplanes were removed from this strip to accomodate all transports. Personnel remained with the planes constantly to be ready to move at a moments notice. 18 August 1945.
