These Camouflaged Oil Tanks Were Used for Storage of the Low-grade

These camouflaged oil tanks were used for storage of the low-grade kerosene manufactured in small quantities by the Japs. The three-legged derricks in the background signify that it is necessary to pump the oil from the well. When pumping becomes necessary, the original derrick is usually dismantled and these smaller derricks are erected for purpose of "pulling" the casings and cleaning them. The oil tanks were camouflaged with leaves. Miri, Borneo - 13 July 1945.
