The 9th AF Martin B-26 Marauder "Rat Poison", a veteran of more than 164 combat missions, undergoing maintenance at the former Luftwaffe field now used as a base by a medium bomber group. "Rat Poison" has been the lead plane for the group on all missions against targets in France, Holland, Belgium and Germany. Maj. William E. Smith, 485 Central Ave., Hapeville, Ga., authoritatively described as the best combat bombardier in the 9th AF, has served on this plane during most of his missions as lead bombardier.
