Steel helmet over Germany

A steel helmet worn by an 8th AAF Flying Fortress bombardier on a combat mission over Nazi war-making targets in Germany recently. The helmet was pierced by a sizeable piece of flak, but only a deep scalp wound was inflicted on the lieutenant, due to the glancing direction of the missile. The fact that the flier wore his helmet, something which all the men should do, undoubtedly saved his life. Pictures such as these show the viciousness of the German defense of their country and people. It also shows that all is not a "bed of roses" for our Americans who are flying daily bombing missions over German and German-held territory. JUN 5 1944
