Sorellerie II in Cherbourg
Cherbourg, France - Photo of Sorellerie II shows how Allied bombardment forced the enemy into a policy of continually more careful concealment. The Robot skis (most obvious give-away for the photo inter-preter) have been lined up along the edges of three fields, and almost under rows of trees which cast deep shadows all morning, making skis almost impossible to see. Site camouflage is not perfect, how-ever, because both square building (Q) and ramp (P) are plainly seen. Their relation, one to another, and fact that ramp is pointed at London are two other PI give-aways. Ramps of 25 sites on the Cher-bourg peninsula, captured before they could go into operation, are aimed either at Plymouth or Bristol.
