An Airman Prays. Before going into combat, Sgt Thomas M. Barber of Seattle, Washington, kneels before the altar at the 96th Bombardment Group chapel. Before going into combat, many airmen say a silent prayer, some call on the minister or rabbi, and after chaplains bless both plane and crew before the take off; but this airman has gone to the group's chapel before taking off on a mission into Germany (bombing). Sgt Thomas M. Barber, 23, Seattle, Washington, kneels before the altar and memorial window dedicated to the airmen of the US 8th AF 96th Bombardment Group who have been killed in action.
