SCR-584 Radar At Dymchurch
1944-08-04
View of operation positions of SCR-584 Radar of the 124th AAA Battalion at Dymchurch, Kent, England, on 4 August 1944. At right of PPI scope on operator's table is automatic sector scan. Each battery in the defense against the flying bombs is assigned a limited field of fire which means the SCR-584 usually sweeps only the sector of fire. With automatic sector scanning the PPI operator can keep the sector of fire under constant sweep. With the desired sector of the scope brightly illuminated continuously the PPI can more readily detect the sharp but small echo of the flying bomb. The high speed of the diver makes it desirable to detect its approach as early as possible.
