S/Sgt Mayewski surveys wheatfield near Bournemouth
1943-05-06
S/Sgt Raymond J. Mayewski, 17 West Main Street, Glen Lyon, Pa., surveys a wheatfield at NR. Bournemouth, Hants, England before starting work on a runway. A flying fortress which made a crash landing in this field was repaired on the spot by a mobile unit. Unites States engineers then came to lay a runway, which took nine days, so that the fortress might take off. 6 May 1943.
