S/Sgt Floyd Schlauch lands at Payne Field

One of more than 300 Allied airmen released by the new Bulgarian government, this American flier's face lights with joy as he lands on Allied soil at Payne Field in Egypt. He is S/Sgt. Floyd Schlauch of Washington, D.C., tail-gunner of a Consolidated B-24 Liberator, which was shot down on raid over Bulgaria. Behind him, 2nd Lt. Laurence Woolhouse, of Chicago, looks as though he doesn't believe it yet.
