Renault Devastation machine shop
Typical of Renault Devastation is the machine shop for milling and screw fitting. The two overhead drives (long shafts with wheels) are twisted beyond repair. More modern factories use individual drives so that one accident will not affect a whole line of machines. Between the drives is an overhead craneway for feeding the machines, also twisted hopelessly by sagging roof girders. The air, water and electric lines, all the utilities, are served in many places and bases for all machines have been shaken so that they will have to be reworked. A coffin-like screw machine shield still stands at left center. Some machine tool parts are salvageable but all must be taken out and painstakingly tested. -A.C.
