Refugees at Kweilin railway station
Refugees at the railway station at Kweilin, China. We see some of the moving drama involved when masses of Chinese are evacuated to safer localities. This evacuation was part of a plan to move all unnecessary civilians out of Kweilin. This is necessary in the event of a Japanese break through farther up the line. Since transportation is a luxury many families are more than happy to perch atop any railway car so long as they may leave the city. The patience and seeming indifference of the people is, at first sight, deceiving for if you look closely you will note an intense hatred for the enemy that has brought about this upheaval.
