Pvt Daniel Phillips uses mine-detector

Pvt. Daniel Phillips of East Los Angeles, California, uses a mine-dector on the logs to locate shrapnel fragments that are sometimes imbedded into the logs. The detector will penetrate and accurately designate foreign metals that are in the wood up to a depth of 8 or 10 inches. To test accurately, Pvt. Phillips will move the detector along all "four" sides of the log. This is the same type of mine-detector used to locate land mines and booby traps in battle areas. Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands.
