Putting Cherbourg Beach Back to a More Normal Use
Putting Cherbourg beach back to a more normal use, these troops of a U.S. Army 9th Air Force Service Command unit are having a brisk game of volley ball. Grim but ironic reminders of the war are the concrete tripods at the edge of the beach, remains of obstacles erected by the Nazis in their vain attempt to stem the Allied liberation forces. The men in this photograph are assigned to work on Mustangs which provide direct aerial support for the infantry. Date 30 AUG 1944 NAME SHAFFER Field Press
