Piombino, Italian port of Ligurian Sea, 105 miles N.W. of Rome, is only one of the Italian coastal cities to feel the weight of bombs from planes of the U.S. Army Air Forces. The coastal railroad, used by the Nazis to transport supplies from the area of Genao, passes through Piombino, which is also the site of marshalling yards, and steel mills as well as an excellent harbor. This photo shows the blasting of all these facilities by B-26 Marauders of the 12th AF. The bombs in the air are 1,000-pounders.
