Pick-A-Back at Bernburg airfield

This air photo shows a cross-up of the Pick-a-back aircraft captured by Allied Armies at an airfield in Bernburg, Germany, after it was smashed by U.S. 8th A.F. Consisting of Ju-88 bomber packed with explosives and a FW-190 fighter mounted on its back, the Pick-a-back combination was one of the numerous desperate measures taken by the enemy to stall off defeat. The Ju-88 aircraft in the foreground has had the FW-190 removed from the mounting.
