Payday in China

Because of the ever-changing rate of exchange in China between the local dollar (Chinese National) and the Yankee dollar, payday is quite a problem. At the moment the photograph was taken, the exchange was about 2,500 Chinese National dollars to 1 United States dollar. Looking at it that way, it takes a heap of nothing to buy something, and lots more to pay the weekly wages of the local civilian laborers at this Air Transport Command base in China, a terminal point for over-the-Hump tonnage.
