MAIN CAPTION: On October 12, 1943 planes of the United States Army 5th Air Force blasted the Jap base at Rabaul, on New Britain Island where for months past the Japs had been concentrating reinforcements of men, planes and equipment. More than 200 Jap craft were destroyed or damaged in this raid, in addition to other materiel, ships and installations. Here are two exceptionally sharp and detailed photographs taken from an American plane during the mission.
