Traffic control gun being operated from the edge of the airstrip by a member of the 149th Army Airways Communications System, giving landing instructions to a North American P-51 "Mustang" of the 35th Fighter Group. The strip was not officially opened, but planes had to be landed here since an accident had temporarily put the "regular" landing strip out of operation. (Planes have returned from a cover mission for Consolidated B-24 "Liberators" over Kyushu. (21 July 1945 - Okinawa, Ryukyu Retto.
