P47 with fire bomb at 318th Fig

Engineer Chief T/Sgt Thomas McCourry of Burnsville, N.C. and an ordnance man put detonator in the opening of "fire bomb", a 165 gallon auxiliary fuel tank which has been secured on the bomb rack of a Republic P-47 of the 333rd Fighter Squadron, 318th Fighter Group and filled with a mixture of gasoline or Diesel oil and Napalm. Saipan, Marianas Islands, 26 July 1944.
