At a U.S. 8th AF fighter base in England, these North American P-51 Mustangs are photographed shortly before taking off on a mission over Germany. Lined up on the snow-covered perimeter, they present a different picture to the one shortly afterwards as they dart through frozen skies to strafe enemy targets and lines of communications.
