P-47 Thunderbolts over 5th Army in Italy

Scenically, this is a beautiful picture, but it is a picture of war. In the snow-covered mountains below the formation of shiny Republic P-47 Thunderbolts of the 12th A.F., are units of the American 5th Army in the Apennines of Italy. The planes are headed for German targets in support of the ground forces. The wing tip in the foreground is part of the plane of Capt. Arthur F. Schramm, of 1402 E. Stayton St., Victoria, Texas, who took this photo.
