P-47 Thunderbolts near Berlin

Just before 1,000 U. S. 8th Air Force Boeing B-17 Flying Fortresses bombed Berlin, Feb. 3, 1945, these three Republic P -47 Thunderbolt fighter pilots swooped down on a Luftwaffe base near the German capital, and destroyed a total of five German fighters as they were taking off to attack the approaching Fortresses. They are: left to right: Major Paul A. Conger, Piedmont, Calif., who led the group and who accounted for two of the Jerries, Capt. Cameron M. Hart, Elmira, N. Y., who shot down two, and 2nd Lt. Philip G. Euhn, Dearborn Mich., who destroyed one enemy fighter.
