P-47 Thunderbolt in Ardennes Salient

H.C. 1st Lt. George Bauer, a Republic P-47 Thunderbolt pilot of the 19th Tactical Air Command, destroyed this ME-109, equipped with belly tank, during recent fighting in the Ardennes salient. His first burst set the Luftwaffe plane afire and knocked off a piece of the engine cowling (above cockpit). Lt. Bauer's home is at 8 River St., Dundee, Illinois.
