P-47 Thunderbolt destroys Nazi truck
Outlined against the explosion of its own bombs, this U. S. 9th Air Force Republic P-47 Thunderbolt fighter plane has just destroyed a Nazi ammunition truck. The plane is piloted by Capt. Raymond M. Walsh, a native of L. I. City, N. Y., whose home is now Fort Myers, Fla. Despite the flaming debris Capt. Walsh flew safely through the explosion and returned to his base. This photograph was made by an automatic camera attached to the following plane, piloted by Lt. Wille L. Whitman, Montgomery, Alabama.
