P-47 Attack on German Army near Verona

Units of a retreating German army had their vehicles well concealed under trees of this forest on Lake Garda, Northwest of Verona, but a Republic P-47 Thunderbolt spotted them and results of their attack are seen in this graphic picture. Heavy black smoke billows from the vehicles after direct hits by the Fighter-Bombers. Planes of the Tactical Air Command have supported our ground forces by harassing enemy transport throughout the current offensive in northern Italy. 24 April 1945.
