P-38 Lightnings over Nis

This photo was make during a U.S. Army Air Force bombing attack on the Yugoslavian rail center of Nis, and shows the target area almost completely covered with bursts. P-38 Lightning Interceptors, equipped with bomb racks, participated in the attack wh with B-25 Mitchell medium bombers. The raid seriously hampered German rail communications in parts of occupied Yugoslavia.
