Shown here, against a background of Allied invasion shipping at a beachhead, is the first Lockheed P-38 Lightning to land on an American airfield in France. It was flown from its base in England by a pilot of the 9th Tactical Air Command, commanded by Maj. Gen. E. R. Quesada.
