One of the heavy graders which aviation engineers of the 9th Engineer Command used to build an emergency landing strip on the coast of France, completing a 3,600 foot strip by 5:53 P.M. Thursday, 9 June 44. Detachments of this new 9th Air Force Command were among the early waves of the invasion landings. They form the ground spearhead for advancing 9th AF airdromes into Europe.
