Okinawan boiling sea water

SALT PRODUCED BY BOILING SEA WATER - Some nations get salt from mines, others take it from the ocean. The latter is the case with Okinawans. The native on the right is boiling a vat of salt water recently taken from the Pacific Ocean. After the water boils away he, and his assistant, will have many pounds of salt. This operation is taking place in a thatched-roof hut near the Pacific Ocean below Ishikawa Village on Okinawa, Ryukyu Retto.
