Nurses on beach head

From no man's land these nurses brought back Allied wounded men. They were the first women to land on the beach head on the emergency landing strip built by 9th AF Engineers. Left to right: 2nd Lts. Eleanor A. Geovanelle, Kersey, Penn., Mary E. Young, St. Petersburg, Fla., Helen Melisse Clark, Cornwall, Conn., Marilean Brown, Columbus, Ohio; Luella Bernard, Waynesville, Ohio. They are all members of an Air Evacuation Unit of the 9th Air Force. The Poppies they brought back is a reminder that they are still women despite the grim and magnificent job they are doing.
