Normandy Beach Defenses

1944-05-06

FRANCE - Detailed information on Normandy beach defenses was obtained from "Dicing" shots like this. Timber ramps, with mines or saw-toothed blades to tear bottoms out of landing craft, were another type of defense. Pump and hose for jet-blasting holes can also be seen. Huns are running like scared sand-pipers from buzzing F-38. Photo taken by 1st Lt. Albert Lanker, 10th Photo Reconnaissance Group, on 6 May 1944, one month before D-Day.
