Normandy Beach Defenses

1944-05-06

Detailed information on Normandy beach defenses was obtained from "Dicing" shots like this. Eight-foot stakes, constructed of steel, timber or concrete, formed first line of Normandy anti-boat defenses. They often had Tellermine or shells pointed seaward attached to top. Objects in the foreground are possibly buried obstacles. Photo taken by 1st Lt. Albert Lanker, 10th Photo Reconnaissance Group, on 6 May 1944, one month before D-Day.
