Nazi personnel on the way out. Two of them, in the picture are smiling. Maybe it is because they are going closer to the Fatherland. The building behind them suffered a direct bomb hit. Note that two of the Germans, one in the foreground and one in the background, are wearing helmets. They had been strafed by a long range low-level Lockheed P-38 attack. American soldiers, in the picture occupy the same scene several months later. The buildings have been rebuilt and are in use as barracks and offices. They have a reason for smiling.
