Nazi convoys in France under bombardment
AIR PUNISHMENT FOR THE RETREATING NAZI - The retreating Nazi in France gets no rest from the Allied air forces. These photographs show how his convoys and vehicles are continually under the bombardment of allied airmen. Reconnaissance mosaic showing German motor transport jammed up on the road between Montelimar and Valence in the Rhone Valley of southern France. Fires started by attacking fighter bombers of the Tactical Air Force still burn. More than 2,000 vehicles, 1,500 horses, 20 trains, and seven big railroad guns were knocked out as the retreating Nazi fought to escape the pocket on the east bank of the Rhone into which he had been forced. All bridges over the Rhone River south of Lyon were impassable to the Nazi, preventing his retreat to the west.
