Motabu Airstrip Okinawa Construction

Two landing strips were built at Motabu Airstrip, Okinawa, Ryukyu Retto; the work was done by men of the 1113th Hdq., Construction Group, the 822nd, 842nd, 183rd & 1897th Engineer Aviation Battalions. Construction was started on 1 July 1945 and on 6 August 1945, the first plane landed. This is an aerial view of one of the stages during the construction.
