Mitchell Bomber crashes in Paramushiru Strait

AIR ATTACK FROM THE ALEUTIANS -- The cost of the most successful anti-shipping mission flown by Aleutian-based airmen in two years was this Mitchell bomber which crashed flaming into the icy waters of Paramushiru Strait with its crew of six. On the credit side of the ledger U.S. Army 11th Air Force Mitchells and Liberators sank or damaged six Japanese cargo and escort ships of a convoy surprised in Kataoka naval base, Shimushu.
