Middleburg airstrip in Dutch New Guinea

An example of an island turned almost completely into an airstrip is Middleburg, off Cape Sansapor in Dutch New Guinea on the road to the Philippines. P-38s and P-61s of Maj. Gen. St. Clair Streett's U.S. Army 13th Air Force operate from this strip. Aviation engineers have cleared literally all the island for taxiways and revetments.
