Messina harbor hit by Northwest African Air Forces

the crooked talon which forms part of Messina's harbor, many military objectives were hit in raids by the Northwest African Air Forces bombers on July 14. This picture shows smoke arising from fires & explosions result-ing from attacks on the important Sicilian town's ferry & railroad areas. RAF Wellingtons raided the city the previous night, & Boeing B-17 Flying Fortresses, North American B-25 Mitchells & Martin B-26 Marauders of the U.S.A. A.F. on the 14th.
