Marauder over Amsterdam-Schipol
With one engine trailing smoke, this flakdamaged Marauder of the U.S. Army 8th Air Force, slowly drops out of formation after the raid on Amsterdam-Schipol airdromeHolland. When this occurs, part of the fighter escort remains with the straggler to protect it from enemy aircraft. This Marauder landed safely. Sgt. William N. Scanlan, Cambridge, Mass., got the picture. MAIN CAPTION: A U.S. Army Air Forces raid on the Amsterdam-Schipol airdrome in Holland was accomplished successfully with little loss. These photos show 2 of the 8th Air Force planes which were hit, one of which failed to return to its base.
